Hello Hongkong

Photographer Bill was busy today as we were treated to an interesting view of this city. Our host for the afternoon was Father Bill Galvin, a long-time friend of Peter's, and a Maryknoll priest who has served in Asia for many years.

He took us by train to a local parish in Lok Fu "outside the original English Boundary line" where we met his colleague Father John Cioppa and then to visit a local parishioner. Mrs. Wong, the homeowner lives in a neat, small 2-bedroom apartment on the 17th floor of Hongkong public housing. Mrs. Wong's son is a photographer living and working in Washington D.C. Her daughter still lives at home.

Tomorrow we plan some touristy cool things before we head off to the airport and our flights to Thailand (2 legs: Hongkong to Bangkok and then to Chiang Mai). Stay tuned!

  2. We find it easy to be here as so many residents speak English and we don't need an interpreter all the time.

Friday the 13th is a gloomy day here -- seeing you safely there and anticipating your good works lifts one's spirits -- great that you all get to play hard now as you prepare for good works soon.

  4. Ruth...Great to hear from you. Friday the 13th is a good day for me, as I was married on a Friday the 13th, many a year ago. Here today, the weather is warm and clear skies. Thanks for the good wishes. BTW Jean K. will meet us in Chiang Mai on the 23rd. Nancy

  6. Glad I caught up with your blog! It looks great. Post as often as you can. Ask Bill to give someone else the camera so I can see him in a few photos! Thinking of you all.

  7. How nice of Mrs. Wong to welcome you into her home. And how fortunate for all of you to have Fr. Galvin as your personal guide. Looks like it was pretty warm today. Peter, would you show Craig how to tie his sweatshirt so it doesn't look like a lump of fabric around his neck? Thanks! We'll be praying for safe travel for you tomorrow. Keep making blog entries and taking pictures; they're wonderful to read and to see.
